October 2022 Newsletter

Seasons are changing around the world, although in Kenya it is a little different.

The weather is not getting cooler, and the leaves are still green but we are rushing into a new season. The season of Wordie Camps is just around the corner and preparations are in full swing! As part of the Camp Crew I have been meeting every week to discuss new ideas for this year's kids, teens and highschool-leavers camps. We are focusing on how to give our campers the best time while they learn the they are FULLY KNOWN by God as the message is conveyed in every way throughout the week. I have the role of leader of the drama team as we use skits and plays to convey the gospel. The students in the Discipleship Training School and some willing staff are my actors and actresses. The plays we rehearse are performed for the 5 weeks of camps but also to local schools and churches where we minister in the meantime.

Student Ministry

Month two of the Discipleship Training center has been a success. It is so wonderful to assist the students as they learn about taking on Godly leadership, child evangelism methods, and survey through the story of the Bible. They also have practical courses each week where they learn more about careers they could go into like design, electrical wiring, and agriculture. Good News Clubs in the Word of Life primary school are an opportunity for the DTC students, and I on the ministry team, to learn how to teach bible lessons to large classes of children.

Local Outreach

In October I visited several schools and churches and ministered through songs, skits, testimonies, and teaching bible verses. It is always exciting to visit a new group because you never know if it will be in a classroom or on a beach, if you will be offered goat or omena to eat, or be there for one hour or the entire day. During these visits I get to see God working through our team to bless the groups. Each person on the team has something to share whether it is a lesson they learned, advice to give to others in the same experience, or how they personally came to Jesus. The groups we minister to are always so welcoming and thankful to have us. The students often show their thanks through music, dance, or spoken word which is so nice to see their creativity.

I can evidently see God's perfect timing, and protection on these visits because one night on the way home, our vehicle was hit by a cargo truck, but no one was injured.

I am grateful to be serving in the kitchens (here and at the primary school), studying Kiswahili which we have in class three times a week, and getting to know the staff and students more and more.

Through Prayer...

  • God would speak through me to the students in Word of Life and local ministry

  • The kids that are coming to camp will have open hearts to learn about God and that they would be financially able to attend

  • The DTC students will learn so much about their personal relationship with God that they can apply to the rest of their lives.

  • I am fully trusting in Him with patience as He gives me strength and direction to serve
